We are a non-partisan coalition of nonprofits, educators, think tanks, universities, and other partners committed to preparing all students to become more civically aware and involved.
Our purpose is to promote civic learning and participation in Oklahoma.
How are we defining this purpose?
Civic learning is…
the acquisition and application of the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in our democracy as active citizens. Behaviors of active citizens include voting, advocacy for policy change, organizing, lobbying, volunteering, dialogue, debate, and running for public office.
Civic learning requires…
policies, investment, programs, and processes of accountability that expand access to civic participation.
Our vision is a state where all citizens have knowledge and access to civic engagement and students have equitable opportunities for high-quality civic education that prepare them to be thoughtful, informed, and engaged members of their communities locally and beyond.
What does that look like?
Every eligible person votes in every election
Every eligible person can vote without undue burden
Voting eligibility is expanded to disenfranchised communities
Every K-12 student receives a civics education and becomes an active participant in our democracy
Every Oklahoman has the knowledge, skills, and access to engage in advocacy, organizing, and volunteerism
